Real Prayer for Real People

Tisha B'Av and the Heart of the Matter
Reflections by Rabbi Paula Marcus in Santa Cruz
Sunday, July 18, 2010 (posted to Interfaith Journey 2010)

When you are afraid that forces you cannot understand threaten what you treasure deeply, you must wrestle with the darkness of loss and despair.  While others may surround you, urging you forward, it is you who must recover the soul, see through the smoke of destruction and fear, release the attachment to the form and slip into the holy of holies, seek the soul, the heart of the vessel. >more

Centering Prayer: Tuesday & Friday Mornings @ 8:20
In the Library***NOTE SUMMER SCHEDULE*** 9:00 Tuesdays only
Twice a week, Dave Grishaw-Jones invites FCC friends to join him for centering prayer and silence in the Library.  We gather at 8:20, share a brief reading, and sit together in holy silence for 25 minutes.  We’re finished by 8:50.  All are welcome, and this is definitely a drop-in kind of group!

Taizé First Friday Evenings @ 8:00pm
The Taizé form of worship grew out of songs and prayers composed by a small group of Catholic and Protestant brothers who settled in 1940 in the small village of Taizé, in the Burgundy region of France, during the second World War. Each first Friday we have a worship service of songs as prayers. Come join us for this quiet and poignant candlelit service.
