The First Congregational Church (FCC) World and Community Outreach Team

This team consists of 5-7 members who represent both members and friends of the congregation. We meet monthly to share outreach ideas with each other, support each other, and hear God's call to continue making this world a place for all to know abundant life.  From Habitat trips, to sitting and listening to others, we engage into a partnership with God by caring for the earth and all of creation.
The World and Community Outreach Team (WCOT) is steward of our church’s ministries outside our walls.  We welcome suggestions regarding areas of focus to support justice, peace, and service.

We also welcome members and friends who are involved in these ministries to serve on our team!
Here are some of the ways we have recently (Mar/April 2009) been of service:

  • $1000 to the Santa Cruz Aids Project
  • $1000 to the Resource Center for Nonviolence
  • $1000 to Hermanas recovery residences for Latina women in South County
  • $250 to Queer Youth Leadership Awards co-sponsorship
  • $250 to the Gay Students Alliance of North Monterey County High School in Castroville
  • $25 to co-sponsor Eyes Wide Open display of combat boots of 455 California military persons killed in Iraq and civilian shoes for Iraqis killed.
  •  Contributing support for the FCC Youth mission trip to Chicago.

Alternative Gift Market - fall 2008

In November we hosted an Alternative Gift Market to raise funds. Listed below are just some of the ways we are attempting to share God's love and goodness with the world. Contact the church office to find out more.

Thank you to those who came and enjoyed shopping by purchasing fair trade and locally made items, as well as utilizing opportunities to re-think gift-giving.  Give a cow to a family in Uganda in the name of your loved one (the gift that really keeps on giving).  Give a hygiene kit, or vaccinations to children in Central America.  Buy soaps made by a women's group in Chicago.   Purchase handmade holiday cards from children in Asia, or a handmade beaded necklace from women in Africa.  Enjoy the homemade goodies and treats - both to eat while shopping and wrapped as a treat to take home to the family or use for your next gathering.

All of the money we raised at our market is used to support our Nicaraguan partnership.  It is our sisters and brothers in Nicaragua who encouraged and challenged us to think more responsibly about what we buy and the communities our choice either supports or harms.

If you have a product or item that helps sustain a just economy and would like further information about how you can have a booth at our market for the next alternative gift market please contact the church office (831-426-2010).
