San Francisco Gay Mens Chorus performs at First Congregational Church Santa Cruz

On December 19th First Congregational Church, Santa Cruz, at 900 High Street, hosts the San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus presenting its 8th annual Home For The Holidays concert. “It’s going to be holidays all the way,” said Artistic Director, Dr. Kathleen McGuire, who begins her tenth year at the podium conducting the world-famous Chorus. “This year’s holiday concert is the Santa Cruz premiere of our 20th anniversary of holiday concerts presented each year in San Francisco,” continued McGuire, adding: “We polled our audience to help us select their Yuletide favorites for this special celebration. The result is a program that includes classic crowd-pleasers like ‘Santa Claus Is Coming to Town,’ ‘The Twelve Days of Christmas,’ and ‘God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen.” “We thank the people of Santa Cruz for allowing us to perform for them each year. We promise an evening that will not only entertain, but also inspire and benefit local people long after the concert,” says McGuire. A variety of spiritual traditions are reflected in the program, which also includes Mariah Carey’s version of “Joy To The World,” and “Fruitcake”: a humorous homage to Julia Child.

While the program contains moments that are blissful, inspiring, and humorous, the message is a profoundly spiritual one, explains FCC’s senior minister Dave Grishaw-Jones: “Since 2002, the Chorus has helped raise over $40,000 for local charities in Santa Cruz County. We hope to raise another $7,000 this year to bring renewed hope to those who seek a spiritual home where deep respect and mutual understanding guide our life and choices—we seek to provide an ‘Extravagant Welcome’ to those in need.

$20 general admission and $35 preferred seating tickets for the December 19th 7pm Home for the Holidays concert are available at the church office of First Congregational Church, 900 High Street, Santa Cruz and online on the FCCsantacruz.org website.
