Contemplative Life

Mindfulness takes practice.  In our chaotic culture, the flow of events and responsibilities is often overwhelming.  Here are a few ways to connect with others at FCC who practice mindfulness and meditation in regular ways.

PASSAGE MEDITATION:  Forest Monsen leads a small group at FCC every Tuesday evening at 7.  Passage meditation is a particular teaching pioneered by Eknath Easwaran and appreciated by peoples of many faiths around the world.

MORNING MEDITATION:  Dave Grishaw-Jones hosts a simple 30 minutes of centering prayer, Tuesdays and Fridays, at 8:20 am in the Sanctuary.

CONTEMPLATIVE SABBATHS:  Dave and Kate Grishaw-Jones host a day-long silent retreat twice a year, using the church campus as a sanctuary for prayer and stillness.  The next is Saturday, October 15.  Call the church office to register (426-2010) or for more information.

WHY THIS EXTRAVAGANT WELCOME?

“A Jesus ego is not centered only on personal choice and responsibility, but also rooted in relatedness and always aware of a larger mission. Today it is tempting to numb ourselves against the horrors that are reported in the news every day, to disown our mutual interdependence. But the Jesus way is to feel the despair and, out of the resulting disturbance, make a difference in the world."
